More than 5,000 miles separate Kailua-Kona from Worcester, Massachusetts. The two are divided by ocean and an entire continent, with different climates, cultures and time zones, but for Kealakehe senior Emily Munjar, Clark University in Worcester feels like home.

Already years in the making, the planning of a state-of-the-art synthetic track is in the final stages for Kealakehe High School.

In order to salvage any hopes of holding BIIF fall and winter sports this school year, the league’s principals will have to reject a cancellation proposal put forth by their athletic directors as support grows statewide to keep the hold on extra-curricular activities in place.

The HHSAA hammer dropped on Saturday, nailing shut the hope that teams across the state could compete for state championships in air riflery, basketball, bowling, cheerleading, cross country, canoe paddling, soccer, swimming and diving, and wrestling.

As sister acts go, Dioni Lincoln has filled in perfectly at Kamehameha, the former home of her sister, Kiarra, who’s making her own path at UH-Hilo.

The pause button has been hit for high school sports in Hawaii as the HHSAA waits on word from the Department of Health.
