BIIF volleyball: Kealakehe, Parker win weekend matches

The Big Island Interscholastic Federation (BIIF) girls volleyball season continued over the weekend on opposite ends of the isle. With the regular season slate set to end soon, island playoffs begin within the next few weeks.

Things are getting interesting in a hurry as Week 5 of the NFL season arrives.

Tensions are rising as would-be contenders like the Eagles, Bengals, Dolphins and Browns, to name a few, have encountered early calamities. Underdogs like the Falcons, Commanders and Vikings have found early success. Meanwhile, the Cowboys, Jets and Bears and other teams that entered the season with great hopes continue to fight to gain their footing.

KEALAKEKUA — Konawaena football played one of its best games of the season during Thursday night’s rout of local rival Kealakehe at Julian R. Yates Field.

BIIF volleyball: Warriors, Ka Makani and Bulls sweep

HILO — Waiakea girls volleyball opened its two-match homestand with its second consecutive straight-sets victory on Thursday in Hilo. The Warriors beat the visiting Kea‘au Cougars by scores of 25-10, 25-14 and 25-11. It was the seventh straight-sets win of the season for Waiakea.

17th Annual IKL Karate Championship coming soon

The 17th Annual International Karate League (IKL) Karate Championship returns Nov. 2 at Old Airport’s Kekuaokalani Gymnasium in Kailua-Kona. Approximately 100 competitors of various age groups are expected from traditional Karate schools around the Big Island and across the state.
