Legislatively Speaking

December is a time to reflect on the year that is drawing to a close and look forward to the coming new year. I am very grateful to be the newly elected State Representative for the communities of North Kohala, South Kohala and North Kona that comprise House District 7. The long campaign was very educational as voters told me their priorities and concerns. With all that advice, I am now preparing for the upcoming legislative session that starts on Jan. 16 and continues until the first week of May.

Yoga Basics with Janet Lam meets from 8-9 a.m every Monday, except Dec. 24. Start the week feeling balanced, flexible and strong. This class includes fundamental yoga poses, and although not specifically a beginner’s class, the movement sequence can easily accommodate students new to yoga or returning to a yoga practice.

Waikoloa Village Parade shares the joy of Mele Kalikimaka

WAIKOLOA — Waikoloa keiki and their parents had a windy day of fun Saturday at the 14th annual Waikoloa Lions Christmas parade followed by the annual Keiki Christmas Festival. The Lions enjoyed picking parade prize winners for best decorated float, best decorated bicycle and cutest doggie. There were lots of pirouetting and karate moves, and Santa arrived stylin’ in his red sports convertible.

Community holiday gala hosted by Aloha Natural Health

From 5-7:30 p.m. this Wednesday, Aloha Natural Health will host a 10-Years in Practice Holiday Gala open to the Waikoloa community. Numerous door prize giveaways and drawings will be offered, along with pupus and non-alcoholic beverages.

Monthly Mini Concert Series returns this Saturday

With an electrifying mix of high-energy rock & roll, R&B and popular dance music, the versatile Johnny Shot Band gets a crowd up and moving in no time. They will perform at a free show open to the public from 6-8 p.m. this Saturday in Queens’ MarketPlace Coronation Pavilion in Waikoloa Resort.

Do you believe in magic? This entire season is built upon the magic and power of that which we cannot see, surrounding us with love and cheer. We gather together and sing songs in celebration of the positive energy that created us. Ironically, this is also a time that many people feel in the greatest opposition to peace and merriment. This often comes from the psychology of getting through the holidays, rather than getting to do the holidays.
