Parker lower school students make the season bright
The Parker School Winter Holiday Concert was held Thursday in Parker Theatre. Children in kindergarten through grade five performed traditional and Hawaiian holiday songs and dances.
Waimea Ocean Film Festival tickets, schedule available
More than 60 films, coupled with filmmaker Q&As, presentations and panel discussions will be included in the four-day annual festival Jan. 1-4 along the Kohala Coast. Venues include the Fairmont Orchid and Mauna Kea Resort, and Kahilu Theatre in Waimea. Tickets can be purchased for day passes or the entire week.
NHCH hosting monthly cancer support group this Thursday
From 2-4 p.m. this Thursday, the monthly support group gathering will be held at at North Hawaii Community Hospital with educational presentations on a variety of topics of interest to cancer patients and their families, as well as informal discussion in a relaxed and supportive environment.

Residents can still comment on the U.S. Navy’s plans for joint special operations training off the West Hawaii coast, including North Hawaii locations.

On New Year’s Eve Hawaii Time, the NASA New Horizons spacecraft will pass by an object known as 2014 MU69, nicknamed Ultima Thule. The name Ultima Thule comes from Greek and Roman literature and map-making meaning “the farthermost northern place, almost mythical in its existence.” It’s an appropriate nickname for the object, as the flyby of MU69 is the farthest planetary flyby in history.

KOHALA COAST — Supporters from Hawaii and the mainland came together Nov. 9 and 10 to attend E ha ‘awi i ka mana’ olana (to give hope), a weekend of events and activities on the Kohala Coast to benefit the Myotonic Dystrophy Foundation (MDF).
Kanu o Ka Aina shines at Festival of Lights
Kanu O Ka Aina New Century Public Charter School’s gym lit up Friday night as hundreds of children, their parents and grandparents attended the annual Festival of Lights, one of the larger school-wide fundraiser events. Last year KANU raised about $18,000 from items sold at dozens of art and food booths that supported individual hui/classes for students in preschool through twelfth grades.
