Waimea Arts Council will hold its annual art show and sale, “Affordable Art at Exceptional Prices,” this Wednesday through Dec. 30 at the Firehouse Gallery in Waimea. All art is created by local artists.

Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope will host their annual Winter Star Party after the Waimea Christmas Parade this Saturday. The Star Party, at CFHT’s Waimea offices, will begin at 7 p.m. and continue until 9 p.m. CFHT staff and members of the West Hawaii astronomy club will set telescopes on the building’s front lawn for community members.

WAIMEA — Astronomers may have finally uncovered the long-sought progenitor to a specific type of exploding star by sifting through NASA Hubble Space Telescope archival data and conducting follow-up observations using W. M. Keck Observatory atop Mauna Kea.

WAIMEA — “Full STEAM ahead,” the 2018 Hawaii State Legislature said as they authorized a substantial $298,000 Grant In Aid (GIA) to help Waimea Middle School (WMS) more fully embrace 21st-century teaching and learning in its new $15 million, 9-classroom Keaoakea STEAM Learning Center.
Annual holiday craft fair returns to Kohala HS Nov. 24
From 9 a.m.-2 p.m. this Saturday, residents can shop, eat and socialize at the annual holiday craft fair at Kohala High School cafeteria in Kapaau.
Special Thanksgiving community meal at St. James Pavilion
Instead of the weekly dinner beginning at 4:30 p.m., a free Thanksgiving community meal, complete with turkey and cranberry sauce, will be served at noon this Thursday at St. James Pavilion in Waimea. Attendees are asked to bring a potluck dish to share.
Holiday wreath making class offered
A wide variety of festive local flowers, leaves and other supplies will be provided between 9 a.m.-1 p.m. this Saturday at Waimea Nature Park for anyone interested in making their own festive holiday wreath.
WDFI fundraiser, auction scheduled at The Dusty Donkey Emporium
The Dusty Donkey Emporium, a thrift shop at Waikoloa Stables just above the village, helps support the Waikoloa Dry Forest Initiative. From 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. this Saturday they will host a charity lunch and auction for the nonprofit organization.
