Score: Parker sports center lands another donation
WAIMEA – Parker School has received a $90,000 grant from First Hawaiian Bank Foundation. The funds will be used to support the schools $12 million Broadening Foundations for Excellence Capital Campaign to build a new Center for Sports, Science, and the Arts.
A Makalii mahalo
WAIMEA The Ohana Makalii gathered May 20 at the Kahilu Theater to mahalo and celebrate with all those who made her upcoming voyage possible. When she embarks on her latest voyage in June to Mokumanamana, the northernmost Hawaiian island, Makalii will be carrying provisions provided by 10 island school gardens and five community groups.

This being Memorial Day, I dedicate my column to and honor all our uniformed men and women who have served our country, putting their lives on the line for the freedom we all now live and cherish. As this 75th anniversary of D-Day approaches, this Memorial Day feels very poignant.
After 50 years of silence, endangered seabird heard on Maunakea
HILO For the first time in more than 50 years, the sound of the uau, or Hawaiian petrel (Pterodroma sandwichensis), was heard on Maunakea, thanks to research funded by the University of Hawaii Office of Maunakea Management and the hard work of the UH Hilo Listening Observatory for Hawaiian Ecosystems Bioacoustics Lab.

Legislatively Speaking: 05-13-19
Aloha! I am very grateful to be your State Representative. Today I am reporting on the work of the 2019 Legislature, which ended May 2. While Im happy with many bills we passed, I am also disappointed in the Legislatures inability to pass other important legislation. There is lots more work to do next session.
Kupuna Transitions: Taking the bull by the horns
I usually spend little time worrying about fitting in with the expectations of others and prefer to do things my own way. It seemed to me that conformity was for those who were busy trying to perfectly match themselves up to the rest of the world and there was no place in that for me. I now understand that individuality requires its own precise energy, which is where perfectionism snuck up on me.
