Baseball clinics coming to Big Island

Big Island baseball families from Waikoloa have gathered to create a baseball outreach program for community children in partnership with Baseball Country, a nonprofit organization based in Ralph, Alabama. This well-established center is directed by former Yankee’s pitcher, Sam Marsonek, who has dedicated his post-MLB career in a mission to positively impact at-risk youth.

Rebecca Tang and Genevieve Savage, a pair of rising seniors at Parker School in Waimea, hosted a letter writing session on July 6 at Parker School to urge governors across the country to protect reproductive rights in the wake of the Dobbs v. Jackson’s Women’s Health Organization ruling.

Rapid ohia death now found throughout Hawaii Island forests

A drive through almost any ohia forest now is very sad if you observe how many trees are dying or dead. Rapid ohia death or ROD has been spreading in the forests of East Hawaii for several years. Now, it is showing up in West Hawai as well. To see the effects of ROD, take a drive up Kaloko Mauka, South Kona or over the Saddle and you will see defoliation and die back on trees young and old.

Officers honored for proactive police work

The Kona Crime Prevention Committee recently honored two Hawaii Police Department officers as Officer of the Month for May and June during an awards ceremony at Huggo’s on the Rocks in Kona.

ACS Relay For Life this weekend in Hilo

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of the Big Island invites the community to join the movement to honor and remember loved ones and fight back for lifesaving change on Saturday at Francis Wong Stadium in Hilo. Relay For Life is a community of survivors, caregivers, local citizens, volunteers, and participants who believe that the future can be free from cancer and own the power to make that change.
