Spring in the northern hemisphere officially starts on March 21, but in upland Hawaii gardens, the budding cherry blossoms tell us spring is already here. In just one week we celebrate the 30th annual Waimea Cherry Blossom Heritage Festival. Saturday, Feb. 4, will be the official day of celebration but you can view these gorgeous trees beginning to bloom now.

Quick Fix: Shrimp Sliders feature flavorful sauce
Shrimp sauteed in garlicky butter fills these little mini burger rolls. A sauce of mayonnaise, mustard, scallions and some Old Bay seasoning is spread on the rolls. Old Bay is a blend of herbs and spices, usually celery salt, red and black pepper and paprika. It’s mostly used to season shellfish.

Although I can’t exactly say it’s been light work – this year featured more Christmas looks than we’ve ever done before. But our team is fantastic. Everybody pitched in, and the shop is finally looking fresh, bright, and ready for the new year.
