Bill 81 would add provisions to prohibit parking on Alii Drive

The County Council Policy Committee on Infrastructure and Assets on Tuesday discussed amending the county code regarding no parking at any time upon certain streets or portion of streets and parking prohibited during certain hours. Bill 83 would amend and add provisions to prohibit parking at all times and adds provisions to prohibit parking at all times between the hours of 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. for certain portions of Alii Drive fronting Kahaluu Beach Park.

2023 Ironman World Championship: Finish

This past Saturday, Kailua-Kona hosted its first-ever women’s-only VinFast Ironman World Championship. Thousands gathered in the downtown area to watch some of the top female athletes in the world embark on the 140.6-mile journey through swimming, biking and running on the west side of the island. Man charged in crossbow shooting at Hapuna

Hawaii Police Department detectives have arrested and charged a Honokaa man with second-degree assault following a weapons incident that took place within the parking lot area of Hapuna Beach State Recreation Area.

Street Eats Food Truck Festival

The Kailua Village Business Improvement District rolled out a new Street Eats Food Truck Festival offering a wide variety of cuisine options from food trucks and vendors from around Hawaii Island. The event kicked off on Saturday with nearly 30 vendors lining Alii Drive from the pier to Hualalai Road. Along the way there were places for visitors to sit and enjoy their food while taking in the view, the music, and the hula. Street Eats will return from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Dec. 2.

Landslide at Kealakekua Bay

Barry Gitelson was working as a caretaker at Manini Beach Thursday afternoon when he heard low rumbling noise coming from across the bay and witnessed a significant landslide at the Kealakekua Pali.
