PTA convoy could cause traffic delays on Friday
Oahu-based military units will convoy from Pohakuloa Training Area to Kawaihae Harbor between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Friday.
The units will convoy via Saddle Road, Mamalahoa Highway, Waikoloa Road, Queen Kaahumanu Highway and Kawaihae Road, according to PTA.
The convoys will have Hawaii Police Department escorts front and rear. Motorists are advised to be alert and drive safely.

DAR meets Saturday
in Waikoloa
The Daughters of the American Revolution Hawaii Loa chapter will gather at 10 a.m. prior to a 10:30 meeting Saturday at Waikoloa Community Church.

Kahaluu cleanup
slated Saturday
Residents and visitors are invited to a Kahaluu Beach Park cleanup from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.
The Kahaluu Bay Education Center and the Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation will provide gloves and trash bags. Starbucks will provide refreshments.

Hula explores connection between people, land Saturday
“Pono Me Ka Aina, Nau Ke Koho (Right with the Land, the Choice is Yours)” will be presented at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Aloha Theatre in Kainaliu. The hula piece exploring the connection between people in Hawaii and the aina is a collaborative effort between Halau o ka Haliko kumu hula Kanani Enos, producer Shane Nelsen and Stanford University doctoral student Rachelle Gould.
Gould’s research focuses on the forests in mauka Kona and what people think about them. The show presents some of her findings, as interpreted through traditional dance, music, spoken word and imagery. For more about Gould’s work, visit stanford.edu/~rgould/research.
Camp Tarawa Marines meet Saturday
The Camp Tarawa Detachment 1255 of the Marine Corps League will meet Saturday at Banjy’s Paradise Bar and Grill at the Waikoloa Village Golf Course. A no-host lunch begins at 11:30 a.m., followed by a business meeting at 1 p.m.

Qi gong retreat
planned Saturday
Qi gong instructor Hallie Iglehart will lead “Living an Inspired Life” from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at One Island Sustainable Living Center in Honaunau.
The event will include nature, art, compassionate activism and wellness practices to help energize and focus on leading an inspired life.
Participants will explore yoga breathwork, ancient goddess art and contemporary activism prior to the event, beginning when the gates open at 8:30 a.m.
Wear loose, protective clothing and sturdy, easily removable shoes and a hat for sun protection.

Workshop to help participants keep weight-loss resolutions
Psychotherapist Summer Eggleston is teaching an “energy psychology technique” to resist foods that sabotage weight-loss resolutions at a community workshop set from 10 a.m. to noon Jan. 19 at Kuakini Plaza South, 77-6400 Nalani Street, Suite 200, Kailua-Kona.
The technique helps participants resist urges and cravings. It can be used with diet, health and fitness programs and also reduces the stress and anxiety that contributes to comfort eating.
