Christmas at Hulihee slated for Dec. 1
The third annual Christmas at Hulihee Palace will take place Dec. 1. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $100 per person and limited special reserved tables are also available.
There will be a royal holiday dinner in honor of Queen Emma. Queen Emma, the wife of Alexander Liholiho, Kamehameha IV, was dedicated to the health and education of her people. Her legacy included the founding of Queen’s Hospital and St. Andrew’s Priory. She spent many years at Hanaiakamalama, her summer palace, in Nuuanu, Oahu, which is now a museum operated by the Daughters of Hawaii. She also had a coffee farm in Mauka Kona and entertained many guests at Hulihee Palace.
There will be live and silent auctions, entertainment by the Kealakehe Intermediate School Chorus and Ukulele Ensemble and Na Hoku Hanohano Award winner Hookena.
Proceed from the evening benefit will go to Habitat for Humanity-West Hawaii and ongoing restoration and preservation efforts at the palace.

Event raises funds
for cardiology clinic
The Kona Hospital Foundation will host its 11th annual gala benefit Saturday at the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai. This year’s theme is “Heart and Soul.” Proceeds will go toward purchasing equipment for the newly opened cardiology clinic on the Kona Community Hospital campus. The foundation’s current campaign will provide new and upgraded cardiology equipment, ensuring cardiac patients have access to on-island, state-of-the-art care and treatment.
The event will feature music by The Bill Noble Sextet, buffet dinner by Executive Chef James Babian, as well as live and silent auction items.

‘This We Believe’ meet-and-greet is Saturday
Friends of the Library, Waikoloa Region is organizing a meet-and-greet for the student writers and dancers from “This We Believe: Hawaii Island, Waikoloa Region” at 1 p.m. Saturday in the community room in Waikoloa Village. Community members are invited; bring a pupu or soft drinks to share.
“This We Believe” is available for purchase at Ackerman Gallery in Kapaau, The Gallery at Bamboo in Hawi, Gallery of Great Things in Waimea, Harbor Gallery in Kawaihae, Kona Bay Books in Kailua-Kona’s Old Industrial Area, Kona Stories in Keauhou, Waikoloa Golf Pro Shop, Waikoloa Mailbox and Waikoloa Village Association Office.
Walk for Water scheduled for Saturday
Walk for Water-Kona, a fundraiser benefiting Water for Life, is slated for 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Old Kona Airport Park.
Water for Life seeks to raise awareness of the global water crisis and raise the necessary funds to install rain catchment systems, drill wells and provide sanitation and hygiene education to people in Uganda. Walk participants will gather water and walk a 1- or 3-mile course, carrying a jug of water in solidarity with those who have no fresh water in their villages.
Registration fees of $25 for individuals or $50 for families of four are waived when sponsor contributions exceed that amount. To register, sponsor a walker or donate, visit waterforlife.org/walk-for-water-kona or call Sue at 747-4107.
Amateur radio enthusiasts to meet
The Kona Amateur Radio Society meets from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the south end of Wawaloli Beach Park at Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority. All members, friends and those interested in amateur radio are invited. Attendees are encouraged to bring a Japanese dish to share at a potluck picnic.
The meeting will include the election of officers and directors with nominations taken from the floor.
