On Hawaii Island, 10 candidates were unopposed or won their primary contests and didn’t continue to the General Election:
State Senate, District 1, Gilbert Kahele, incumbent Democrat, won his primary race and no Republican ran.
State Representative, District 1, Mark Nakashima, incumbent Democrat, won his primary race and no Republican ran.
State Representative, District 2, Clift Tsuji, incumbent Democrat, had no primary opponent and no Republican ran.
State Representative, District 4, Faye Hanohano, incumbent Democrat, had no primary opponent and the winner on the nonpartisan ticket, Hope Cermelj, did not receive the required minimum 10 percent of total votes cast to proceed to the General Election.
State Representative, District 7, Cindy Evans, had no primary opponent and no Republican ran.
County Council District 2, J Yoshimoto won without a runoff by garnering more than 50 percent of the vote.
County Council District 3, Dennis Onishi had no opponent and won in the primary.
