Coffee picking contest scheduled for Sunday
The Kona Coffee Cultural Festival Coffee Picking Contest begins at 8:30 a.m. Sunday at the Ueshima Coffee Corp. farm on Highway 180 between mile markers 5 and 6. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m.
The contest includes age categories from infant to those 60 and older. The corporate challenge features competing units of Bank of Hawaii employees. Picking time is limited to three minutes.
Baskets for coffee picking are provided by UCC. Participants and spectators must have a festival button, good for all festival events and available for $3 at the event.
Rotary fundraiser targets polio
In honor of World Polio Day, the Rotary Club of Kona will hold a fundraiser on Sunday at the Kona Denny’s Restaurant to raise funds to eradicate this disease. Denny’s is a partner in efforts to raise money for this cause.
The event includes guest servers who will help serve food with Denny’s staff. Guests are invited to stop by for dinner anytime between 4 and 9 p.m. Denny’s will donate 20 percent of food and beverage sales and 100 percent of guest server tips earned that evening.

Senior ID cards
issued in November
The Coordinated Services for the Elderly Program of the Hawaii County Elderly Activities Division will issue senior ID cards for people 60 years and older from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at the Kohala CSE Courthouse.
Staff will also issue cards from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Kmart, Kailua-Kona; 9 to 11 a.m. Nov. 13 at L. Yoshimatsu Senior Center, Waimea; 9 to 11 a.m. Nov. 19 at St. Jude’s Church, Hawaiian Ocean View Estates; 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 28 at the West Hawaii Civic Center gazebo; and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 30 at Yano Hall, Captain Cook.
