This past Saturday, the Hawaii Cycling Club held a three-mile cycling time trial that took cyclists from the end of Alii Drive, up Kamehameha III Road and back down to the finish line.
Penn Henderson was once again King of the Hill, finishing the three-mile hill climb in 10 minutes, 17 seconds. Sean Maynard was a close second at 10:24. Tai Scarbrough rounded out the top three with a time of 11:09.
For the women, Rani Tanimoto claimed the hill with a time of 14:42, and Shirley Pratt took second at 17:09.
On Sunday, Team Mango Races held its Post-Ironman Sprint Triathlon, a race that included a 1/4-mile swim, a 10-mile bike and a two-mile run.
To start the race, the triathletes swam a quarter-mile on a two-lap course in Kailua Bay. Upon completion of the swim, the athletes mounted their bikes and rode down Alii Drive to the Keauhou Beach Hotel and back to Kailua Pier while minding all traffic laws.
A two-mile run on Alii Drive followed the bike ride, bringing the athletes through the Kahakai Street loop and back to the pier, where the finish line awaited.
Leading by just over 1:30, Michael DeCarli flew across the finish line, earning first place with a total time of 44:27 and clocking the fastest 10-mile bike leg of the day at 25:36.
Kris Kiser earned second place with a time of 46:03. Korey Pulluaim, who ran for Team Big Island Honda, placed third in 47:00.
In the women’s race, Kym Kiser dominated to finish eighth overall at 52:24, clocking in almost 7:30 ahead of her closest competitor.
Cedes DeCarli earned second in 59:49, and Lori Montgomery was third (1:00:14).
In relay races, the team of Dave and Shirley Pratt finished first with a combined time of 49:40. Second place went to the team of Michael DeCarli and Bob Smith (56:21).
Team Mango would like to thank everyone who volunteered and participated in this month’s race. TMR is very excited for the five people who completed their first triathlons at the Post-Ironman Sprint Triathlon.
On Saturday, the PATH Foundation will hold its Run for the Dry Forest at Puu Waawaa (for directions and entry forms, visit pathhawaii.org). The event features 5k, 10k and keiki runs. The 10k will start at 7:45 a.m. with the 5k starting shortly after.
Athletes may register on race day between 6 and 7:15 a.m.
This Sunday, Frozen Pea Productions will conduct its Thrash and Dash Biathlon. This race will include a 1/3-mile swim and a two-mile run. As always, the event will have a shorter course for just about anyone.
Relays are always welcome. Not too fond of swimming? Masks, snorkels, fins and floaties are all acceptable. This race, which starts at 8 a.m. Hawaiian time, is free and open to all.
