Hilo resident Jason Moke was sentenced Thursday to 10 years in prison for third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug, possession of prohibited firearm, possession of drug paraphernalia and unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, according to the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney.
Moke had pleaded guilty July 11.
Judge Greg K. Nakamura ordered the prison term for those charges to run consecutively with a prison term for probation violatons for another 10 years. He rejected Moke’s request for concurrent sentencing, citing his extensive criminal history and the combination of drugs and firearms.
Police responded on Aug. 12 to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the area of Kaiwiki Road and found Moke asleep in a red sedan. Moke, 38, was arrested on two outstanding felony probation revocation warrants. As Moke was being arrested, police observed a glass pipe, commonly used to smoke methamphetamine, in plain view within the vehicle.
During a subsequent investigation, police found a glass pipe containing a small amount of methamphetamine, a Ruger .22-caliber rifle with a sawed-off barrel, and a clip loaded with 24 .22-caliber bullets. Further investigation revealed Moke was on felony probation for unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, and possession of drug paraphernalia at the time he committed this new offense, and was prohibited from possessing any firearm or ammunition.
