Harmonics Healing workshop is Sunday
The Healing Arts Center in Honaunau will host the healing duo of Yumi Kikuchi and Gen Morita on Sunday in South Kona.
Kikuchi and Morita will offer a two-hour introductory Harmonics Healing workshop slated to begin at 1 p.m at Dragonfly Ranch. The workshop will be followed by one-on-one consultations in an open clinic style.
Harmonics Healing is the principle that since the body tends toward wellness and realigning with natural energies, the technique will encourage swift healing.
The workshop will consist of a presentation along with demonstrations and practices for participants. This healing couple will share their knowledge of anatomy, including where organs are and what they do according to their extensive training in Japan.
In addition, a Japanese method called Soto Therapy that uses specific heat applications on organs will be taught. Sotai Exercise, or how to move the body in a gentle, comfortable position for improved healing, will also be demonstrated for participants to experience.
Morita and Kikuchi have been practicing and teaching the healing system based on traditional Japanese medicine for 20 years and have held 200 workshops. Both are directors of the Hawaii College of Oriental Medicine, which is based in Kailua-Kona.
After the free event, the instructors will be available for private half-hour consultations.
Reservations are requested at 328-2159. Attendees are asked to arrive a few minutes early.
Similar events will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. every third Sunday starting in September. Refreshments will be served, followed by the open clinic.

APAC offers theater classes for all ages
The Aloha Performing Arts Company is offering an array of theater-related classes this fall in Kainaliu. Among the classes are:
Keiki Folklore Theater, taught by Robin Baker, from 4 to 4:45 p.m. Mondays through Aug. 27 at the Aloha Theatre. This class, designed for 5- to 7-year-olds, is based on folklore and legends. Tuition is $30. A free friends and family performance is planned on the last day of class.
APAC artistic director Jerry Tracy will resume Tuesday Troupers, his theater skills class designed for 8 to 12 year olds. The class will be offered between 3:30 and 5 p.m. on Tuesdays, Aug. 21 through Sept. 25 at the theater. Students must be able to read; tuition is $60. Personal stories, theater games and script readings are all part of this continuing APAC tradition, which features a friends and family sharing performance on the final Tuesday.
Sue Boyum meets with Aloha Teen Theatre members from 4 to 6 p.m. Fridays at the APAC Loft in Kainaliu. Aloha Teen Theatre encourages teen leadership through theater education, community outreach projects and public performance opportunities. Teens are able to explore various performance styles and express themselves in a safe environment, directed by Boyum, an experienced performer and educator. Felicity Johnson will resume her Intergenerational Theater class from 2 to 4 p.m. on Thursdays, beginning Sept. 6 at the theater. All ages are welcome in this class, which runs through Oct. 11, with a free performance on the final day. Tuition is $60, and a performance in another venue outside Aloha Theatre is possible.
Classes in technical theater are also planned.
