Lavender Moon Gallery presents “Harmony,” an exhibition of new works by Ka’u artist Edwin Kayton and his sister, woodworker Verna Keoho. The brother/sister exhibit opens Saturday with an artist reception from 4 to 6 p.m. at Lavender Moon Gallery in Kainaliu.
Kayton continues to paint a multitude of subjects with cultural images, landscape and still life. Kayton’s diversity is expressed in works of the islands, as well as paintings from his recent travels in Italy and Greece.
Keoho works with Hawaiian woods, specializing in koa. Keoho creates a variety of koa gift items and also the frames for her brother’s original paintings and giclee prints. The brother and sister team will often collaborate on wood projects, taking advantage of Kayton’s design expertise, resulting in unique lamps, small tables, wine accessories and clocks.
Like complimentary colors, they blend their distinct abilities toward an ultimate goal.
“Balance is vital, whether on canvas or in everyday life” Kayton said.
“We each have our own Kuleana,” Keoho added, “and the merger works well.”
Both Kayton and Keoho approach their work, their travels together on the mainland and abroad, art classes and their personal relationship with the same attitude of mutual support, affection and synergy.
“Harmony” will be on display from Saturday through April 7.
