Hilo men charged in assault, kidnapping
Big Island police have charged two men in connection with a late Feb. 1 assault outside a Hilo restaurant.
Waylen Keone Carenio Jr. and Turner Au turned themselves in Monday night at the Hilo Police Station, according to the Hawaii Police Department.
Carenio and Au were each charged Tuesday with kidnapping, intimidating a witness, retaliating against a witness and third-degree assault stemming from the Kamehameha Avenue incident, according to police. Bail was set at $71,000 each.
Carenio, who was also wanted on a bench warrant stemming from a grand jury indictment, was charged with manslaughter stemming from the Dec. 3 death of Mountain View resident Roy Williams Jr. following an altercation fronting a Hilo sports bar. His bail was set at $50,000.
Honolulu police honor officer killed in crash
HONOLULU — The Honolulu Police Department’s final salute to an officer who recently died in the line of duty involved a funeral motorcade and flowers dropped out of a helicopter.
Wednesday’s motorcade wound its way from Borthwick Mortuary to department headquarters to honor 28-year-old Officer Garret Davis, who died last month after his patrol car was hit from behind when he stopped to help a stalled vehicle on a freeway.
At headquarters, a 21-gun salute was sounded, “Taps” was played and flowers were dropped onto the street from a hovering police helicopter.
