Funds awarded to charities during Kaiser celebration
In celebration of Kaiser Permanente’s 50th anniversary in Hawaii, more than 600 members and employees in West Kona gathered Nov. 2 at the Kailua Pier for a day of festivities that included a performance by Amy Hanaialii.
In conjunction with the anniversary, Kaiser Permanente employees were asked to submit grant applications to select 50 nonprofits to receive a $1,000 award. Four of those grants are going to organizations on the Big Island, including the American Cancer Society-North Kohala, From Kids to Kids, Hawaii Island Adult Care and the Food Basket. Representatives from recipient organizations attended the anniversary event. The 50th anniversary celebration also raised an additional $1,100 for the Food Basket, with 421 pounds of food collected at the event.
Kaiser Permanente is holding a food drive at all eight 50th anniversary events statewide with donations going to each island’s respective food pantry.
Market extending hours during holidays
The South Kona Green Market held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Sunday on the lawn of the Amy B.H. Greenwell Ethnobotanical Gardens (across from the Manago Hotel in Captain Cook) is extending its hours until 2 p.m. for the November and December holiday season.
