Moore wins room makeover from HPM
Shanna Moore, a 70-year-old Hawaiian Ocean View Estates resident, is the winner of HPM’s “Picture It!” $5,000 Room Makeover Contest.
HPM received 168 photo entries to the contest. During the course of the Kona Building and Design Expo and the Hilo Home Building and Remodeling Show, more than 2,000 event attendees voted to determine the winner of the $5,000 prize.
Moore’s photo of her kitchen, along with the description, “I am 70 years old, living on a fixed income, so I have no resources to upgrade my kitchen,” received more than 20 percent of the total votes cast.
“I prayed on this,” said Moore when she was first informed of her winning. “I’m a really good cook. I have my grandchildren over on the weekends. I usually have to cook everything in one pot and sometimes cook over the campfire. They love it, but how wonderful it will be to have a modern kitchen with a real oven,” said Moore.
Moore will receive $5,000 in building materials from HPM Building Supply to assist in her kitchen transformation. HPM is also recruiting licensed contractors and organizations who would like to assist by contributing time and talent for the renovation work.
