Tuason selected executive chef
Sandy Tuason has been appointed executive chef at the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and Bungalows. Tuason will oversee all of Mauna Lani’s culinary operations and will be instrumental in showcasing the resort’s new dining experience.
Tuason previously worked for the Four Seasons Resort in Nevis, West Indies. His 18 years of culinary experience include his tenure as executive sous chef at the Four Seasons and Le Madri Italian Restaurant in New York. He trained under the tutelage of chefs Daniel Boulud and David Burke. In London, he refined his culinary talents under three-star Michelin chefs Albert Roux and Michel Roux.
The executive chef is a graduate of the French Culinary Institute in New York and has a bachelor of arts degree in English literature.
Wellness fair coming to Waimea in December
The public is invited to learn about Hawaiian healing practices and meet spiritual leaders during the first Wellness With Aloha Cultural and Healing Festival from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 12 in Waimea Park.
The free festival brings cultural practitioners Haleaka Iolani Pule Dooley, Kumulomi Dane Silva, Nahoku and Kaleiiliahi Kamakawiwoole, Keahi Hanakahi, M. Kalani Souza, Maxima Forslund and others together in an open, informal and festive atmosphere for personal healing sessions and talking story. Teachings by Dooley and Souza on the sacred way of living hooponopono, plus live music and hula performances complete the day and celebrate the soul.

Smart Money seminar slated for Nov. 17
Bank of Hawaii is hosting part 10 of its series of financial education Smart Money Seminars from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Nov. 17 at its Kona branch at 75-5595 Palani Road, Kailua-Kona. This month’s topic, “Long Term Care Insurance,” will help attendees learn more about the need for long-term care, various types of care available and components of long-term care insurance.
The seminar is free to the public and is led by financial experts from Bank of Hawaii. No products or services will be sold at the seminars, and no promotional materials will be distributed.
