SPECIAL TO WEST HAWAII TODAY
About 25 Lions Club members in West Hawaii and a couple of Leo Club members from Konawaena High School gathered Jan. 7 at Yano Hall to clean and pack more than 3,000 recycled prescription eyeglasses that were donated over the last two years by members of the community.
The donated glasses have been shipped to a regional Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center where they are being categorized by prescription and prepared for distribution by Lions and other groups to developing countries where eye care is often unaffordable and inaccessible.
The Lions Club of Kona has about 75 members and meets on the third Monday of every month at 6:30 p.m. at Teshima’s Restaurant. Lions clubs are groups of men and women who identify needs within the community and work together to fulfill those needs.
