County of Hawaii Purchasing Division wins statewide award
The County of Hawaii Finance Department’s Purchasing Division won a statewide award for excellence, accorded by the Hawaii State Procurement Office.
The five-person Purchasing Division team, comprised of former purchasing agent Jeffrey Dansdill and his colleagues Steve Wilhelm, Lori Shikuma, Larry Suenishi and Krystie Campbell, shared the 2017 Procurement Professional Excellence Team Award.
The award was presented by the State Procurement Office Oct. 20 during the second annual SPOCon conference for state procurement professionals.
“I’m really proud of them for stepping up and for helping others in the county and the state,” said County Finance Director Deanna Sako. “They worked really hard.”
Caleb Milliken named to Governor’s Commission on Fatherhood
Caleb Milliken, Kona resident and director of the West Hawaii Fatherhood Initiative through Family Support Hawaii, has been appointed to the Hawaii Governor’s Commission on Fatherhood.
He will be officially commissioned at 5 p.m. Thursday at the state capital building in Honolulu.
Milliken has a long history of community engagement in West Hawaii, specifically, working with men in the community to get more involved in the lives of our youths. His passion comes from knowing that healthy, engaged fathers and mentors are the key to a vibrant functioning community. Research on fatherhood supports Milliken’s passion and clearly indicates that children growing up with a father in their lives are better off across all risk indicators.
The West Hawaii Fatherhood Initiative provides training support and advocacy to give the fathers the tools and knowledge necessary to remain engaged with their children and develop better communication as co-parents with the children’s mother.
The Fatherhood Initiative meets every Wednesday night at the Ulu Wini housing complex.
