Waikoloa Stables is abuzz with music and family fun this weekend with the inaugural Big Island Ohana Fest, Mele with the Mountain.
The lineup covers all styles of music. More than 25 reggae, rock, country, blues, folk, jazz, bluegrass and Hawaiian bands will perform throughout the three-day festival, which kicked off Friday.
“This has been a vision for as long as I can remember,” said one of the event promoters Mikey “Fiyah” Hooser, recalling growing up with festivals like Waikii.
He figured if local musicians didn’t get invited to the big stage, bring the big stage to them.
“We bring a uniqueness and touch of aloha from our Big Island,” said Hooser. “Ohana is a world family.”
Pony rides, keiki activities, educational booths and local vendors round out the festival today from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Kohala Center and PARENTS, Inc.
