Local illustrator
joins adult coloring book craze
Adult coloring books continue to be popular and Hawaii offers more than its share of visual inspiration. From the flora and fauna found in our backyards and neighborhoods, gracing our roadways and filling our lush rainforests with twisting ferns and blooming floras, to the vast array of colorful animals in the sea, in the air, and on land, Hawaii is an artist’s dream.
Local illustrator Kelly Monis taps into our island palette to create detailed drawings sure to inspire and awaken the artist in all of us.
Her book, “Coloring Nature in Hawaii,” features everything from birds to sea creatures, to the islands themselves. There’s also intricate tapa-like designs, various culturally significant animals such as apapane, mano, and puaa, and iconic flowers and plants.
Monis grew up in Honolulu and attended the University of Hawaii at Manoa earning a Fine Arts degree. The book was recently released by Mutual Publishing.
