WAIMEA — North Hawaii Community Hospital recognizes the important role that nutrition plays in health and well-being, and is committed to providing the community with the tools needed to stay healthy.
The hospital’s clinical dietitian is available to speak to community schools, support groups, churches and clubs about healthy eating and meal planning. Sessions usually last 30-45 minutes and can include a food tasting if desired.
Topics include Nutrition 101, where participants can learn what comprises a general, healthful diet, such as the Mediterranean diet, the Mind diet, the Dash diet, and others.
Meal planning for hypertension, diabetes, kidney disease, heart disease, Parkinson’s disease and other health issues is also available. Additional topics include healthy eating on a limited budget, cancer and nutrition, family nutrition, healthy snacks, how to read food labels, grocery store tours, food safety, mindful eating and other topics by request.
