Kona Tax Office modifies hours for June and July
Starting Thursday through July 31, state Department of Taxation’s Kona Office walk-in service hours will be modified.
The Kona Tax Office will be open from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1-4 p.m. Monday through Friday except on state holidays.
Taxpayers should continue to use the drop box at the office. Taxpayers may also call the Hilo Tax Office at 974-6321. Additional tax information is also available at tax.hawaii.gov.
The Kona Tax Office is in the State Office Building, 82-6130 Mamalahoa Highway, Room 8, in Captain Cook.
Emergency response training planned
The Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency has scheduled an in-depth Community Emergency Response Team or CERT Basic Training Course at the Discovery Harbour Community Center in Ka’u.
Training will take place over four consecutive Saturdays starting this Saturday.
Classroom and hands-on instruction will be provided in safety, fire suppression, first aid, light search and rescue and emergency communication.

Hike Honaunau on National Trails Day
In observance of National Trails Day, the Ala Kahakai Trail Association and E Mau Na Ala Hele, two nonprofits dedicated to preserving the historic trails of Hawaii, will host a hike on Sunday.
The group will meet at 9 a.m. at Puuhonua O Honaunau National Historical Park for a ranger talk. Then, a hike from the visitor center south along the 1871 trail to Kauleoli and back is planned. The round-trip distance is approximately four miles.
The trail is comprised of mostly loose rocks with uneven terrain and very little shade. Hikers should bring at least two quarts of water, snacks, sun protection and wear sturdy trail shoes.
There is no charge for the hike, but park entrance fees apply.
