Hawaii Community Caregiver Network has created a free resource guide for family caregivers in Kona. It includes almost 60 listings of local county agencies, support groups, contacts for various medical conditions, home health care and legal and family support. The guide is available at www.hawaiicaregivers.org in digital form and as a downloadable PDF.
Organizations that offer services for family caregivers in Kona and are not already listed in the directory should contact the network through the website or at HCCN@hawaiicaregivers.org so their contact information can be included.
UH-Hilo Chancellor’s Scholarship recipients named
Four Hawaii Island students were among 13 from Hawaii’s public and private high schools awarded the prestigious Chancellor’s Scholarship by the University of Hawaii at Hilo.
The award, valued in excess of $28,000, covers four years of tuition for students graduating from a Hawaii high school who earned either a GPA of at least 3.5, a combined 1800 SAT (reading, writing, math) or a composite score of 27 on the ACT while demonstrating leadership or community service.
The 2017-18 Hawaii Island recipients are Hailey Briseno of Hawaii Preparatory Academy, Skyla Elder of Honokaa High School, Naneaikealau Thomas, Kamehameha – Hawaii and Kamamaluwaiwai Wichimai or Kamehameha – Hawaii.
Louis makes college honor roll
Pulamanamauu Louis of Kailua-Kona has been named to the honors list at Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa.
Graceland University students with a GPA between 3.65 and 3.99 are named to the honors list.
Apply for low income home energy assistance
Hawaii County Economic Opportunity Council will be accepting applications for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program also known at LIHEAP from June 1-30.
The federally funded program allows low-income households to apply during for assistance with their utility bills. Applicants are informed of the amount of the award in late October or November. The financial assistance is deposited in the applicant’s utility account and is used until it is exhausted.
Applications will be taken at the following sites:
• HCEOC Naalehu Office behind Naalehu Community Center from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
• Ocean View Community Center, 92-8924 Leilani Circle from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays.
• Edmund Olson Trust Office in Pahala, from 1:30-4 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday, except June 12, 16 and 19.
• Kona-HCEOC Office, 76-6804 Mamalahoa Highway, Holualoa from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mondays
• Honokaa-HCEOC Office at 45 Mamane St from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
