Hawaii Island police arrested a dozen motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant between April 24 and Sunday. Two the drivers were involved with traffic crashes and one of the drivers was younger than age 21.
Five drivers were arrested in South Hilo while four were arrested in Kona and two in South Kohala. One motorist was arrested by officers in Puna.
So far this year, there have been 400 DUI arrests compared with 361 during the same period last year.
There have been 456 major crashes so far this year compared with 484 during the same period last year.
To date there have been nine traffic fatalities on Hawaii Island public roads compared with 10 during the same period last year.
