open house
West Hawaii Community Health Center invites the community to its open house at 5 p.m. Friday at its Waikoloa health center, 68-1845 Waikoloa Road, Suite 207 in Waikoloa Village.
Attendees may meet the medical providers and learn more about the integrated medical, dental and behavioral health care services available to everyone. Free health screenings will also be available. Pupu, live music and door prizes are planned.

Prescription drug take-back event Saturday
A prescription drug take-back event is planned from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Kona Police Station, 74-0611 Makai Place, and at other locations throughout the state.
Anyone with expired or unused prescription medication is encouraged to bring their medications to the collection sites. The service is free and anonymous. No questions are asked. Tablets, capsules, and all other solid dosage forms of medication will be accepted. New or used needles and syringes will not be accepted.
In Hawaii, from September 2010 through October 2016, over 24,500 pounds of pharmaceuticals have been safely collected and disposed of at the previous 12 take-back events.

Dance classes raise funds for Parkinson’s research
To celebrate April as Parkinson’s Awareness and International Dance Day, Marie Alonzo Snyder, director of Hawaii Dance for Parkinson’s and Zouk HI, will teach dance classes on Saturday. The event is at The Edible World Institute, 75-5699 Kopiko St.
Classes are offered by donation. The funds will go to Parkinson’s research involving the Mucuna Pruriens plant being conducted by Tanya Denne on Hawaii Island.
A Hawaii Dance for Parkinson’s class is planned from 10-11:15 a.m. The class empowers those afflicted with Parkinson’s disease, their partners, their caregivers, and friends to enjoy movement, music and dance.
A Brazilian Zouk beginner bootcamp for all ages will be offered from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. No partner is necessary. Brazilian Zouk is a partner social dance that evolved from Brazil’s Lambada.
