West Hawaii Hui Laulima meets
West Hawaii Hui Laulima meets from 10:30 a.m. to noon Friday at The Salvation Army, 75-223 Kalani St. in Kailua-Kona.
Carol Ignacio, government and community affairs manager for Hawaii Island, will discuss the history, goals and mission of the Blue Zones Project.
West Hawaii Hui Laulima is a consortium that encourages collaboration particularly around matters affecting West Hawaii’s youth and families.

Kona Orchid Society meeting coming up
Kona Orchid Society meets Friday at the Makua Lani Christian Academy, 74-4966 Kealakaa St.
Brian Monk, of Blu Llama Orchids in Naples, Florida, will discuss hybridizing, including the development of heat tolerant Cymbidiums, multi-floral white and pink Paphiopedilums, warmth tolerant intergeneric Oncidiiae, and a standard pink Cattleya with an all white lip. Monk will also speak on loddigesii and Brazilian Miltonias and show pictures.
Attendees should bring pest-free blooming orchids for show and tell and pupu to share. Supper will be served at 6:15 p.m.

Lai Opua 2020 meeting planned
The Alliance for a Sustainable Ahupuaa Ninth Annual Puwalu will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at West Hawaii Civic Center, Building G.
State projects to be discussed include the judiciary building status, Queen Kaahumanu Highway and Department of Hawaiian Home Lands Development. Also planned is discussion of the Lai Opua Community Center Development Plan, Holualoa Water Development Partnership and Kealakehe Regional Park Status. Refreshments will be served.
