Brain Injury Support group meets
The Brain Injury Support group meets from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Hawaiian Rehab Services, just mauka of the Hawaii Community Federal Credit Union on Hualalai Road.
Jim and Janice Gustin will discuss Jim’s brain injury and his recovery process.
Invited are all brain injury, stroke or other neuro-trauma survivors, their families and caregivers, interested professionals and the public.

Seniors to tour University of Nations
The Kailua-Kona Seniors will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hale Halawai.
A regular meeting will be followed by a guided tour and lunch at the University of Nations. Members will carpool to the site at approximately 11 a.m.

Read aloud program Thursday
The ABC Read to Me Family Literacy Read Aloud Program will held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday in the Kealakehe Elementary School cafeteria.
Parents can learn tips for motivating children to love reading, enjoy listening to good stories, collect book lists and get reading tips for families. They can also trade books at the book swap and enjoy snacks, drinks, and dinner. Prizes will be awarded to each age group, including adults and volunteers.
The Kealakehe Elementary Principal’s Book of the Month will be read aloud to all. Then, adults will be read to in the cafeteria while children, from toddler to grade 5, enjoy stories in breakout sessions.

Support group for the blind meets
The West Hawaii Chapter of the National Federation of the Blind meets at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Hale Halawai.

Kona Traffic Safety Committee meets
The Kona Traffic Safety Committee will meet from 4:30-6 p.m. Thursday to discuss traffic issues with public officials who can make a difference. Everyone is welcome. With the completion of the bypass, new issues will be discussed.
The committee meets on the second Thursday of each month in the Mayors Conference Room of the West Hawaii Community Center on Kealakakehe Parkway on the second floor in Building C above the license bureau.
WHEA plans
open house
West Hawaii Explorations Academy will host an open house from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at its campus at the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority, 73-4500 Kahilihili St.
The staff welcomes the public to see what a WHEA life has to offer. Campus tours will showcase student projects including shark tank, clownfish, seahorses and touch tank. Teachers will be available to answer questions. Applications for 2017-18 school year are available at whea.net.
