James Iopa Sr.
James Emerson Kalani Iopa, Sr., 70, of Kings Landing, died April 18, 2014, at home. Born in Hilo, he was an auto mechanic and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was also the vice president of Malama Kaaina Hanakaaina.
Friends may call at 8 a.m. May 9 at the Hilo Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for a 10 a.m. service. Burial will follow at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. The family requests casual attire be worn and flowers be omitted.
He is survived by sons, Walter (Lehua) Iopa of Hilo, James Iopa II of Paauilo; daughters, Mollie (Edean) Gardner of Kauai, Charla (John) Brock of Kauai, Iralynn Iopa of Pahoa, Vanessa Iopa of Kings Landing; brothers, John (Sherron) Iopa Jr. of Panaewa, John Iopa of Keaau; sisters, Hannah (John) Abitz of Iowa, Vanessa (Roland) Kepano-Iopa of Keaau, Leeann Iopa-Nishizawa of Oahu; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Beryl Walter
Beryl Kalaninohea Blackshear Walter, 92, of Poulsbo, Wash. died April 22, 2014, at a private care home in Washington. Born in Hilo, she was a homemaker, a member of Haili Congregational Church, Gideons International and Hilo Women’s Club.
Friends may call at 9 a.m. May 10 at Haili Congregational Church in Hilo for a 10 a.m. service. A private burial will follow. Family requests aloha attire be worn.
She is survived by sons, Thomas (Eileen) Walter of Natick, Mass., William (Adella) Walter of Keaau, Douglas (Elizabeth) Walter of Port Ludlow, Wash., David (Lois) Walter of Bainbridge Island, Wash.; 17 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and cousins.

Alfred Rieta Jr.
Alfred “Stoney” Rieta Jr., 60, of Keaau died April 27, 2014, at home. Born Oct. 23, 1953, in Wailuku, Maui, he was an assembler for Walmart in Hilo. He was also a member of the Apostle’s Motorcycle Club and the captain of the Running Rampant Billiard Team.
Friends may meet between 10 and 11 a.m. May 10 at the Hilo Civic Auditorium for an 11:15 a.m. bike run. A service will follow at noon at 4 Miles in Keaukaha. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
He is survived by wife, Jill Rieta; daughter, Brandy Rieta; sons, Dustin (Mahealani Makanui) Rieta all of Keaau, Eric Braceros of Kahului, Maui, Michael (Rebecca) Rieta of Ohio; hanai son, Joseph Ah Heong of Keaau; brothers, Dennis Rieta of Kahului, Maui, Jeffrey (Ranelle Aborto) Rieta of Wailuku, Maui; seven grandchildren.

Alice Quanan
Alice Victoria Quanan, 62, of Waimea died April 13, 2014, at her home. Born June 4, 1951, in Kealakekua, she was a homemaker, a former employee of Altres Staffing, a former driver for Avis Rent A Car, karaoke host for Teru’s and Lamplighters, campus security and attendance clerk for Konawaena High School. She was also a former retail clerk for McInerney’s and a volunteer coach for Lima Hana West Hawaii Special Olympics.
Friends may call at 10 a.m. May 17 at OTEC beach for a celebration of life, followed by an 11:30 a.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn. For information call 333-5581.

Gordon Yeaman
Gordon Edward Yeaman, 60, died April 16, 2014, at Kaiser Medical Center in Honolulu. He worked for Hertz at Kona International Airport and more recently as a groundskeeper at Kona Coast Resort.

He is survived by sisters, Linda (Hollis) Kama of Hilo, Camelia Yeaman of Captain Cook, numerous nieces and nephews.
Daniel Oliveros
Daniel Steve Oliveros, 57, of Ocean View died April 20, 2014, at Kona Community Hospital. Born Oct. 25, 1956, in Kealakekua, he formerly worked for Cal-Kona Produce and KTA in Keauhou, and was a food service worker, a former security guard and a Hawaii National Guardsman.

Yuriko Horiuchi
Yuriko N. Horiuchi, 81, of Kailua-Kona died April 21, 2014. Born Aug. 10, 1932, in Wailuku, Maui, she was a teacher for the Hawaii school system.
