Hawaii State Federal Credit Union announced the award of a total of close to $20,000 to 45 teachers throughout the state as a part of this year’s Investing in Education grant program.
The program supports state public school teachers by awarding up to $500 for classroom supplies.
All of the grant recipients are Department of Education teachers at elementary, middle and high schools and members of the credit union, the credit union said.
This year’s recipients included Monica Nonaka of Konawaena Elementary School and Lawrence Denis of Waikoloa Elementary and Middle School.
Since its start in 2009, the program has funded 390 grants totaling more than $176,800.
“We believe that when our teachers have the support and resources they need, our children benefit from greater engagement in the classroom and a higher quality of education,” said Andrew Rosen, Hawaii State Federal Credit Union president and chief executive officer, in a release.
