Parkinson’s and Neuroplasticity Wellness Support will gather on Nov. 2 from 1—2:30 p.m. Individuals with Parkinson’s and other neurological challenges, along with their partners or caregivers, are encouraged to attend this support group/talk story. Focus is on community and conversation. Dress comfortably and ready to enjoy a class to strengthen mind and body.
Tutu’s Quilters is offered every Monday from 9:30 a.m.—noon with Kathy Lukens. The get-together is for beginners and experienced to learn quilting Hawaiian style. Initial supplies are provided or participants can bring something you are working on.
Chair Tai–Chi Kung with Cathleen Rickard is every Monday from 1:30—2:30 p.m. Enjoy simple, hand and leg movements, postures and gentle deep breathing techniques while remaining seated in a chair. This movement series emphasizes flow of internal energy to improve organ function, range of motion, blood pressure balance and over all physical and mental well-being. The class works well for seniors, physically challenged persons and folks recovering from surgeries or living with injuries.
Powerful Tools for Caregivers Classes is a 6-week series that will be held from 1-3 p.m. beginning Nov. 8–Dec. 13 to help family caregivers cope with the demands of caring for their loved ones with chronic medical conditions. Sponsored by Hawaii Community Caregiver Network, family caregivers will learn self-care tools to reduce personal stress; change negative self-talk; communicate their needs to family members and health care or service providers; communicate more effectively in challenging situations; recognize messages in their emotions; deal with difficult feelings; and make tough caregiving decisions. Attendance is required at all six classes. A $25 deposit for course materials will be collected at the first class and refunded upon completion of the six-week series. Participants who complete the series will receive “The Caregiver Helpbook” at no charge. Advance registration is required. Call Loli Paranada at 936-6499.
