Paper helped
with vog, too
The article on vog was very interesting in the Aug. 19 newspaper. I’ve had COPD for several years. I’ve also lived in Kailua-Kona for 40-plus years.
At one time, I could call a Volcano line at 5:30 a.m. and also 7:30 for the particulate level in several areas. It was color coded. What helped me the most to know what I could or could not do that day was the color codes and particulate number published daily on the weather page of West Hawaii Today.
If the color was yellow and above 75, it was be careful. When it turned orange at 101, then it meant stay in and do only what I had to do. That was the best help I’ve ever had. I wish you would add it back to the paper.

Don’t make us
live like hobbits
Anybody can live like a hobbit today, but nobody is forced to unless we consider the plastic bag ban. Those advocates wanted men to carry big canvas purses into grocery stores.
Not many of us are doing that. However, we can still choose to eat at our favorite local-style take-out restaurants where Styrofoam is the traditional container and plastic forks are the eating utensil of choice. This does not sit well with the organic crowd. Those nonconformists of yesterday want everybody to conform to their lifestyles today.
The recycle crusaders are slowly molding us into hobbits. They don’t need God on their side. These new-age missionaries have Mother Nature on their side.
