A Beyond 4 Walls Kona community worship night is planned from 6-8 p.m Friday by the stage at Kona International Market Place.

VFW schedule announced
Post 12122 behind Kona Locksmith off Kaiwi Street will serve Zero’s tacos, homemade pinto beans and dessert from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday.
The Marine Corps League will meet at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

Auntie’s Angels seeks produce donations
The Auntie’s Angels Soup Kitchen ‘n’ Pantry will be held Saturday July 23 for the low-income seniors living at Hualalai Elderly Housing. The charity is asking for donations of fresh summer produce. All items, including canned goods and personal hygiene items can be dropped off by calling Auntie Jan at 329-7897.
Camp Tarawa Detachment meets
The Camp Tarawa Detachment No. 1255 of the Marine Corps League meets Saturday at the VFW Post located at 74-5543 Kaiwi Street Suite 185A, behind Kona Locksmith.
A no-host lunch is planned at 11:30 a.m. with a business meeting starting at 1 p.m. All Marines and Navy Corpsmen serving, retired or reserve and their spouses are invited. Dress is resort casual.

Buddhism in contemporary America discussed
The public is invited to listen to Jeff Wilson, who will discuss mindfulness in America, currently the most popular aspect of Buddhism in contemporary America.
The talk is from 9:30-11:30 a.m. July 23 at the temple of the Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin, 398 Kilauea Avenue.
Wilson is as associate professor of religious studies and East Asian studies at Renison University College. In addition to his book, “Mindful America: The Mutual Transformation of Buddhist Meditation and American Culture,” he has written numerous other books and articles on the adaptation of Buddhist and mindfulness in America.
