Chair Yoga is 9:30-10:15 a.m. on Friday with Michiko Sato. This is a class for those who need a gentle and slow yoga-in- a-chair practice. The movements are designed to stretch and strengthen the body without standing or lying on the mat. We may include some easy standing poses behind the chair.
Dementia and Alzheimer’s Educational Seminar is 9-3 p.m. this Saturday with Chris Ridley, MSW, Alzheimer’s Association. Starting at 9 a.m. is “What is Dementia; stages, symptoms and treatments” including the latest information on the disease. At 11 a.m., view the film “I’ll Be Me,” a beautiful, funny, inspiring movie about music superstar Glen Campbell’s struggle with Alzheimer’s disease before and throughout his sold-out “Goodbye Tour.” At 1 p.m., Ridley will present “Communication and Behaviors in Dementia,” covering information on possible causes and types of behaviors that may arise during the course of dementia, as well as potential interventions. No talent is required, just an open mind and willingness to learn in the spirit of fun. Bring a 9×12 journaling book, pens scissors, glue stick, paper scraps, acrylic paints, brushes, crayons and markers if you have them.
Healthcare Decisions: Make Your Wishes Known is 10-11:30 a.m. on June 29 with North Hawaii Hospice’s Clinical Service Director Debbie Washburn, RN; Social Worker Megan McCaffrey, MSW; and Volunteer Coordinator Bobbi Bryant. Learn about hospice and supportive/concurrent care programs at this informational session that will include the latest resources on making your wishes known, advanced directives for health care, living wills, physician orders for life-sustaining treatment (POLST) and planning for care at the end of life.
Introduction to Middle Eastern Belly Dance for Women is 5-6 p.m. on June 29 with Deanna Olivier. This sacred dance encourages participants to move toward an elevated consciousness, and offers an opportunity for connecting with the creative spirit within. The class is suitable for all levels of experience, including beginners. Bring a friend, and a large scarf or veil if you have one. The class begins with a yoga warm up, combining QiGong centering, and ends gently with improvisation to nourish and inspire spontaneous expression.
