Don’t let animals be victims
Perhaps because of the present controversy involving the Hawaii Island Humane Society, some old timers have asked me why the commemorative sign dedicating the establishment of the Kona animal shelter to my mom, founder and chief supporter of the old Kona Humane Society, was taken down and replaced by the HIHS sign.
While I admit disappointment with the insensitivity demonstrated by HIHS toward those who helped establish the original Kona Humane Society, I doubt my mother would care whose name now graced the facility.
She would be profoundly upset, however, if the ongoing controversy currently playing out were to diminish donations to the effort to provide love and care to our animal community.
Times change, but the need for support of our animal neighbors continuously increases so don’t ignore the real issue. Keep up with the donations — the animals will appreciate it and that’s all that really matters.
