Aquaculture talk planned at NELHA
Neil Sims, co-Founder and co-CEO of Kampachi Farms, will discuss the latest developments in open-ocean mariculture and the automation that makes it possible.
The event is from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority Gateway Energy Center, 73-4485 Kahilihili St., Kailua-Kona.
Kampachi Farms has developed and deployed a single-point mooring mariculture array 6 miles west of Keauhou in water 6,000 feet deep. The array is attached to an unmanned barge equipped with wireless communications and IP-enabled automation equipment. The company’s focus is on softening mankind’s footprint on the sea.
The talk includes time before and after the presentation for questions and networking opportunities. All are welcome.
A potluck is included. Attendees should bring pupu and nonalcoholic beverages to share. Reusable plates and cups are encouraged.

Rotary recognizes APAC’s Jerry Tracy
The Rotary Club of Kona Mauka has announced Jerry Tracy, artist director of Aloha Performing Arts Company as this year’s Rotary Vocational Award of Professional Excellence recipient.
A special club meeting award presentation will be held at noon Tuesday at Teshima’s restaurant. Anyone interested in celebrating Tracy’s achievement is invited. Lunch is $25 per person.

Learn to prepare for retirement
Ed Hickey from AARP will offer a program, “10 Steps to Retirement” from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. Tuesday at Kailua-Kona Public Library. Attendees will find help to start planning for their ideal retirement.
The free program is presented by Friends of the Libraries, Kona.

Cancer support group meets Tuesday
A cancer support group meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Teshima’s restaurant in Honalo. People newly diagnosed with cancer, cancer survivors, caregivers and family members are invited. The group meets to share cancer related issues and to lend support to one another. Women are encouraged to learn about breast cancer risks and early detection.

Verizon offers free workshops
Verizon employees will lead workshops to help people get the most out of their electronic devices.
Android: Getting Started will teach the basics of an Android device, including a review of hardware functions, how to set up email, add social network accounts, master device features and customize it. This class is offered from 8 to 9 a.m. Saturday and from 9 to 10 a.m. Sunday.
Apple iPhone: Getting Started will cover features such as Maps, Siri, FaceTime and the app store. This class is from 8 to 9 a.m. April 30.
