Workshop planned for pa‘u riders
A workshop about pa‘u equestrian traditions and practices will be held at The Kona Historical Society from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
In preparation for the King Kamehameha Day Celebration Parade in Kailua Village on June 11, the workshop will highlight lei making, pa‘u history and tradition, parade protocol and the wrapping of the fabric.

Motorcycle ride supports Camp Erin
Midnight Riders Motorcycle Club will hold a Camp Erin Adopt a Teddy Bear run Saturday. A minimum donation of $20 is requested with checks made payable to Hospice of Kona’s Camp Erin. Donors may drop off their checks at Big Island Harley or at the end of the run at Kona Elks Lodge. The money supports Camp Erin, a children’s grief camp for kids 5-17 years of age who have lost loved ones.
Kona Elks will open at 11:30 a.m. with a lunch of hamburgers or hot dogs with numerous toppings, coleslaw, and chips served from 12:30 to 2 p.m. for riders at the end of the run. Birddog Blues will perform from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Cost for lunch is $5 and the bar will be no-host.

100 Women Who Care meets Saturday
100 Women Who Care in North Hawaii will meet at 2 p.m. Saturday at Paniolo Restaurant in Waimea.
The group supports area nonprofit projects and activities. Starting in late 2015 with seven women, the group has more than doubled to 18 members. Four times a year the members come together for one hour. Two to three members make presentations about a charitable activity. Members vote for the one they wish to fund that quarter, and write their donations directly to the selected charity.
Visitors and new members are welcome.

HAM radio enthusiasts meet
The Kona Amateur Radio Society meets from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the south end of Wawaloli Beach Park at Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority.
Members, friends, and those interested in amateur (HAM) radio are invited. The group meets on the fourth Sunday of each month. Attendees should bring a healthy food dish for the potluck to fit with the Earth Day theme of the meal.

AARP Smart Driver class scheduled
Kona Palisades Association is sponsoring an AARP Smart Driver class at 1 p.m. Monday at the Palisades Recreation Center on lower Kaiminani Drive in Kailua-Kona. Registration is required.
This class is geared toward the older driver. It does not include driving or written tests, only informative quizzes. It covers subjects that may affect drivers as they age, such as hearing, eyesight, reflexes, safety rules and road rage.
Participants may receive a discount on their insurance.

Students make dean’s list at Pacific University
Kristen Hiromasa and Alec Lugo of Captain Cook and Jasmine Almoguera and Kamahao Shimaoka of Waimea have been named to the dean’s list at Pacific University in Oregon for the fall semester, 2015.
They are among 411 undergraduate students at Pacific University to achieve this high academic honor.
To qualify for the dean’s list at Pacific, a student must achieve a term grade-point average 3.70 on a 4.00 scale and complete 12 or more graded hours.
