A flood advisory has been extended until 4:30 p.m. Tuesday for Hawaii Island.
At 1:15 p.m., radar showed a band of heavy showers with rain falling at rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour moving into the windward and southeast areas of Hawaii Island, according to National Weather Service forecasters in Honolulu. The area of heavy rain was nearly stationary.
Locations in the advisory include, but are not limited to, Waipio Valley, Hilo, Pahoa, Mountain View and Wood Valley.
The public is cautioned to stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas prone to flooding.
Rainfall and runoff will cause hazardous driving conditions because of ponding, poor braking action and reduced visibility.
