Dance class offered for Parkinson’s patients
The first series of Hawaii Dance for Parkinson’s will be held on Wednesdays April 13, 20, 27 at Hale Halawai on Alii Drive.
The free class will be taught by Marie Snyder, who is a Wertheimer Fellow of Dance for PD. The class empowers those afflicted with Parkinson’s disease, their partners, their caregivers and friends to enjoy movement, music and dance. No dance experience is necessary. Participants will explore elements of modern dance, ballet, social dancing and repertory from various choreography in an enjoyable, non-pressured environment.

Isbell to address Calabash Cousins
Virginia Isbell will be the guest speaker at the Daughters of Hawaii and Calabash Cousins meeting at 1 p.m. Thursday at Hulihee Palace. Information and upcoming events will be discussed. April birthdays will be celebrated. There will be refreshments following the meeting. Guests are welcome.

Dharma conference this weekend
“Dharma Con,” presented by the Hawaii Island Hongwanji Council and Hawaii Island United Buddhist Women’s Association, is a biannual statewide conference to be held Saturday and Sunday.
Anyone over age 10 who is interested in learning more about the Dharma is invited.
Dharma Con presents a keynote speech by Mayor Billy Kenoi and talks by Bishop Eric Matsumoto and Pieper Toyama, founding head of the Pacific Buddhist Academy and president of the state organization.
A workshop series focused on the conference theme “Touched by Kindness” will offer interactive learning opportunities. Most take place at 1 p.m. Saturday and are repeated at 2:15 p.m.
There will also be a youth overnighter at the Sangha Hall, a demonstration of the Dharma quiz bowl and a Saturday night talent show. On Sunday, K. T. Eger, islandwide head of the Buddhist Women’s Association, will lead a walking tour of the Queen Liliuokalani Gardens.
Cost is $20 per person for workshops and lunch, $32 for full day Saturday with dinner, and $45 for Saturday and Sunday. Register by Friday at hilobetsuin.org.
