Free movies celebrate Architecture Month
To celebrate April as Architecture Month the Hawaii Island Section of the Honolulu Chapter of the American Institute of Architects invites the public to join in free film presentations.
“Alejandro Aravena The Power of Synthesis” and “Olmsted and America’s Urban Parks” will be shown at 6 p.m. Thursday at Donkey Mill Art Center, 78-6670 Mamalahoa Highway. They will also be shown at 5:30 p.m. April 21 at the W.M. Keck Observatory Headquarters, Hualalai Learning.
The events are designed to foster local awareness of our built environment so that we may continue to enjoy our island lifestyle. Both Aravena and Olmsted created successful projects through great design that can solve multiple problems, create beauty for the inhabitants and point to a positive future.
Royal Order of Kamehameha offers scholarships
The Kona Chapter of the Royal Order of Kamehameha is accepting applications for scholarships from West Hawaii high school seniors to help them pursue their goals of higher education at a two- or four-year college of their choice.
Criteria for selection can be found on their website. Applications are available at royalorderofkamehameha.org. Completed applications must be submitted and postmarked no later than May 31.
