KAILUA-KONA — Hawaii County’s dengue fever case count held steady at 261, health officials said Tuesday afternoon.
Of the confirmed cases, 236 were Hawaii Island residents and 25 were visitors, according to the Department of Health. The last onset of illness was March 4.
As of Tuesday, none of the 261 cases remained potentially infectious to mosquitoes.
However, the Department of Health noted that “infectious mosquitoes may still be present, even if no cases remain infectious to mosquitoes. ‘Fight the bite’ preventative measures remain crucial throughout the Big Island.”
Since the start of the outbreak in September, health officials have excluded 1,465 reported cases based on test results and/or not meeting case criteria.
