KAILUA-KONA — No new cases of dengue fever were confirmed on Hawaii Island Monday, state health officials said. However, one of the island’s confirmed cases still remains potentially infectious to mosquitoes.
Since the start of the outbreak in September, health officials have confirmed 261 cases of the mosquito-borne virus on Hawaii’s southernmost island, according to the Department of Health. Just one case, which had an onset of March 4, remains potentially infectious to mosquitoes.
Of the 261 cases, 215 have been adults and 46 have been children. Just 25 of the cases have occurred among visitors.
