Tessa Lark, one of the brightest young stars of the violin, whose playing combines an astounding range of sounds, technical agility, and musical elegance, performs Thursday at Kahilu Theatre in Waimea.
A native of Kentucky, Lark came to national attention when she was named the 2012 Naumburg Violin Competition winner. In 2014, she was a recipient of the Leonore Annenberg Fellowship Fund, and Silver Medalist of the 9th Quadrennial International Violin Competition of Indianapolis. Lark plays the 1683 “ex-Gingold” Stradivari violin, on generous loan from the Josef Gingold Fund for the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis.
Pianist Amy Yang will accompany Lark and perform on the recently acquired Kahilu Theatre Steinway piano. Yang is a seasoned soloist, chamber musician, and pedagogue, and is hailed by The New York Concert Review as, “a magnificent artist and poet.”
The performance will take place with the audience seated on the main stage with Lark and Yang to create an up close and personal experience for concertgoers. Because of the intimate nature of the performance, limited seating is available to the public.
The program will include works by Georg Philipp Telemann, Franz Schubert, Fritz Kreisler, and Maurice Ravel.
Doors open at 6 p.m.; show starts at 7 p.m. Complimentary beverages and dessert by Merriman’s Restaurant will be provided. Attendees are encouraged to check out the “Art Off The Wall” exhibit showing in the Kohala Gallery, and the Shape the Season exhibit showing in the Hamakua Gallery while at the theater.
Tickets are $133 and can be purchased online at www.kahilutheatre.org, by calling 885-6868, or at the theater’s box office from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday.
