Painter Lisa Bunge and internationally acclaimed bronze sculptor Chris Barela will headline a free artists showcase from 4-6 p.m. March 18 at residence within the KaMilo subdivision of Mauna Lani Resort.
Award-winning Chef James Babian, of Pueo’s Osteria, will provide food samples and wine pairings while attendees stroll through the artists’ work. Buyers of fine art usually purchase art in a gallery setting that doesn’t necessarily reflect the setting of the buyer’s home. By combining the artists showcase in a luxury home (that happens to be for sale), art aficionados can see how an art piece will look in an actual home.
Barela, a Puako resident, is known around the world for his marine life sculptures. His life-size statues and fountains can be found in public parks up and down the West Coast and his custom copper and glass gates grace luxury estates throughout Malibu, California. Barela’s intricate and life-like sculptures of billfish and marine mammals have garnered numerous awards and accolades over the years.
Bunge is known for her works depicting old Hawaii and historical landmarks across Hawaii Island. One of Kona’s first female sailing charter captains and a longtime West Hawaii resident, she enjoys painting Hawaii’s waters and sea life. Using oils, acrylics, and watercolors, her works are a blend of realism and the abstract capturing the essence of living in Hawaii. Bunge is also one of the few artists-in-residence at the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and Bungalows.
