Sidewalk puppy sales must stop
I am writing to address the selling of puppies along the shoulders of roads here in Kailua-Kona, especially along Queen Kaahumanu Highway and Hina Lani entering the Costco area.
Surely rational and intelligent people realize that the selling of animals to whomever for profit is outrageous. Will it be kept in a cage or chained up its entire life, will it actually be loved and provided for with care or will it be used to hunt, to fight or to even be eaten? These sellers could care less where the puppies go when sold. They just want to get rid of the puppies for money.
Come on, everybody, if you care anything at all about animal welfare, say something, do something. Don’t just drive by and say it’s not my problem. The ownership to actually act on behalf of animals is everyone’s responsibility. This disgusting selling has got to stop.

Neighborhood a friendly one
As a resident of the Ranchos subdivision in Ocean View, I was very interested in Sunday’s article on the 96 pending complaints to the building department.
I was also shocked to read Ms. Wood’s statement that there have been two home invasions in the neighborhood. I had not heard about these alleged crimes. Maybe more importantly, I don’t understand their connection to the building violation complaints unless she is implying that her neighbors are responsible for said crimes.
Perhaps she is taking the position that this somehow justifies the vicious actions taken against her neighbors. Would she prefer these people join the ranks of the homeless? These complaints are going to cause people who can least afford it to incur costly expenses. I can’t imagine anyone living in a community where they are so miserable that they would feel the need to strike out at hundreds of their neighbors.
I would suggest moving to a community where they might be happier, but then again some people are just miserable and will be no matter where they live. I have found this community to be a wonderful place to live where neighbor helps neighbor, we have the occasional pot luck, and other than that we pretty much mind our own business.
