KEALAKEKUA — The case of a South Korean man who allegedly stabbed another South Korean man in a woman’s hotel room on Jan. 27 is advancing, prosecutors said Monday.
Kyoung Sun Yoo, 59, of Yuseong Gu, South Korea, was charged by the Hawaii Police Department with first-degree assault, first-degree terroristic threatening and abuse of a family member after the incident.
He posted an $8,000 bond.
The Korean Consulate-General’s Office in Honolulu said they are not becoming involved in the legal elements of the case. They have provided reminders on scheduling and confirmed he returned to South Korea.
Dale Ross, the county’s first deputy prosecuting attorney, confirmed the office would be filing a complaint on the offenses “shortly.”
The stabbing happened at a room at the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel when Yoo found the victim and a woman together in the woman’s room, police reported.
All three people were injured in the altercation, according to police.
The victim was taken to North Hawaii Community Hospital, where he was listed as stable with puncture wounds to his chest and thigh.
Yoo was treated for an injury to his left hand before he was taken to jail.
The 52-year-old woman was treated for a head injury.
